In a statement issued via their social media accounts and email, the University of Cape Town today denied reports that had been circulating on social media.

The issue at hand, as #FeesMustFall protests raged at UCT and other institutions across the country, was the UCT Financial Aid Office allegedly withholding financial aid from students.

UCT Claps Back at Fake News

According the UCT's Communication and Marketing Department the post circulating on social media was "not true" and called on students and colleagues to "be wary of fake news on social media, especially in a time of heightened tensions."
